SYLLOGISM – A VERY IMPORTANT PORTION FOR NTA NET EXAMS. PART-4
Certain Exceptional Cases
Case 1 – When one proposition is All and the other proposition is Some Not, we don’t need to follow first and last rule and also common element should be in the beginning of both the sentences.

Case 2 – When the first preposition is All and second preposition is Some Not and also the common element is placed at the end of both the sentences.

Exercises
Statement
All rose is purple
Some rose is not grey
Conclusion:
I. Some grey are not purple.
II. Some purple are not grey.
Which conclusion is correct?
Solution-Conclusion II follows. This is case 1 where common term is in the beginning. Also correct order is Some Not+All. After rearranging we get:
![]()
So the conclusion is Some purple are not grey. So conclusion II is correct.
NOTE- Please be careful about the order of preposition.
In the next blog we will discuss previous year NET exam questions asked from Syllogism.
